Status: Abandoned, 12 years
Located: Dannevirke, Tararua.
Clinical clinic opening 8th of April 1961 as a general hospital, like many other hospitals in NZ during the 90's, there was a gradual run-down of hospital services which lead to Dannevirke hospital been closed and a all purpose-built community hospital was established. Private aged-care facilities were expanded. It officially shut its doors in 1997.
The property has since been sold to developers.
For a building of its age the Dannevirke Hospital is in a character condition. Although the inside of the buildings are been dismantled and the property is to be redeveloped, from the outside you can still see the 1960's hiding some where behind all the beautiful and natural bush that thrives all around the outside. I'm not sure whether the place has maintained a good condition because of little knowledge of the hospital to vandals or just darn luck.
